ABOUT MTN MPULSE SPELLING BEE
The MTN spelling bee is one of the biggest and best spelling bee competitions in Nigeria. The competition boasts of tens of thousands of participants yearly. The competition is held in 3 stages, comprising of the 1st and 2nd round (both held virtually) and the Grand finale held physically in Lagos. The competition is only open to MTN customers in the mpulse tariff plan and so to participate in the competition. You must have a valid MTN sim card under the mpulse tariff plan . The top 3 winners of the competition are showered with lots of exciting gifts with the 1st place winner going on to become a one-day MTN CEO.
HOW TO REGISTER FOR MTN MPULSE SPELLING BEE
As mentioned above, interested participants must first have a valid and registered MTN Sim under the mpulse tariff Plan. If you are not on the mpulse tariff plan, dial *344*1# to migrate. Interested participants between the ages of 9-15 are to visit the MTN mpulse website (www.mpulse.mtn.ng/spelling-bee-quiz) and click on a button which states “click here to participate”. After clicking on the button, you would be redirected to another page where you are to enter a phone number to generate an OTP (One Time Pin).
The OTP would be sent to the registered number and the participant is expected to enter the sent OTP in a set of Boxes on the Website. It is expected that the generated OTP is imputed immediately before the timer counts down to zero. After successfully entering the OTP, you would be re-directed to a portal where you can now participate in the first round, participants can take the practice stage as many times as possible to get themselves familiarized with the user interface before participating officially in the 1st round of the competition.
Note that if it is not yet date for any official commencement of the competition, you can only participate in the practice round.
MTN SPELLING BEE IS IN HOW MANY STAGES
The competition is in three stages, the first round, second round and grand finale.
- In the first round, only the top 1,000 spellers progresses to the 2nd round
- In the second round, only the top 20 spellers progresses to the Grand Finale.
- Both the 1st and 2nd rounds of the competition are held virtually while the Grand Finale is held physically in Lagos.
IS THE COMPETITION OPENED TO ALL CLASSES?
The competition is age based and only individuals between the Ages of 9-15 are allowed to participate.
IS THERE A WORD LIST?
MTN releases a set of words on their website arranged in alphabetical order from A-Z. Each alphabet contain no less than 100 words.

WHAT ARE THE PRIZES GIVEN TO WINNERS?
There are lots of prizes to be won by participants who makes it to the grand finale (top 20). The prizes includes:
- 1ST POSITION
STUDENT: N5 million scholarship grant, 1 Lap top, 1 Smart Phone and mpulse goody bag
SCHOOL: ICT Lab (10 laptops), 10 MTN Hyneflex
TEACHER: N500,000 Cash
- 2ND POSITION
STUDENT: N2.5 million scholarship grant, 1 Lap top, 1 Smart Phone and mpulse goody bag
TEACHER: N300,000 Cash
- 3RD POSITION
STUDENT: N1.5 million scholarship grant, 1 Lap top, 1 Smart Phone and mpulse goody bag TEACHER: N200,000 Cash
- 4TH – 10TH POSITION:

HOW TO PREPARE FOR MTN SPELLING BEE
Here are key things to note as you prepare for MTN spelling bee
- To participate in the competition, you must have a registered MTN sim under the mpulse tariff plan.
- The 1st and 2nd rounds of the competition are online and so you need a stable network and well charged smart phone or Laptops.
- There is a time count for each word you are demanded to spell and so you must be fast.
- The sounds of the words are auto-generated and so your smart phone or Laptop must have a good speaker to enable you hear the words clearly or you can make use of ear piece or head phones.
- You are provided with meaning, part of speech and an incomplete sentence (missing word). These are enough information needed for you to correctly spell the words.
- The spellings of the words are not to be said orally but typed in a space provided on the mpulse Quiz website.
- You can only participate in each round once with a registered sin card. Using several sim cards with same details might get you disqualified.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A SPELLER DON’T MAKE IT PAST THE 1ST OR 2ND ROUND OF THE COMPETITION?
Didn’t make it to the last 20? Heads up! There is a bonus round. Yes, you read that right. MTN provides a bonus round for every speller who had participated in the 1st round (Entry stage) and 2nd round of the competition.
The Bonus round comprises of 10 words to be spelt, the words are randomly selected from the MTN WORD BANK and each participating speller is expected to spell (by typing) each word in less than 20 seconds. There are lots of exciting prizes to be won from the Bonus round which usually lasts for a period of two weeks.
