SPELL AFRICA INTERNATIONAL

The Spelling Leaders Competition, Also Known as Spell Africa is one of the leading Spelling Bee competitions in Nigeria. The Competition is held annually for Pupils and Students across various states in Nigeria. The Competition is Usually in two Stages (State and National) but there are plans by the organizing body to expand the competition to other West African Nations of which they have secured license to Operate in Ghana, Gambia, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

At the State level, Contestants compete among themselves for a chance to qualify for the National Final where different States qualifiers converge at a Location to compete for the National Crown. The following prizes are given to the winners.

NATIONAL SPELL IT BATTLE OF CHAMPIONS

The National Spell it Battle of Champions is widely regarded to as the Fastest Spelling Bee Competition in Nigeria as contestants are usually made to spell good number of words in few seconds. The competition is highly competitive and test the speed and accuracy level of each participants. The National Spell it Battle of Champions is held year across different states in Nigeria.

The competition starts at the State Level and then progresses to the National level which is held at the National Stadium in the Capital City of Nigeria, Abuja. The competition is opened to Learners usually from Grade 3 to SS3 but exceptional spellers below Grade 2 can also participate.

Winners at the State Level are given the following prizes

TEAMMASTERS NATIONAL SPELLING BEE

The Teammasters National Spelling Bee is as well one of Nigeria’s Biggest Spelling Bees and among the few competitions held virtually. In recent years, the Competition is being held online, using the Popular Zoom Video-conferencing Application to connect registered participants from different parts of the Nation.

The competition is open to all classes across Primary and Secondary Schools. The Competition starts from the Regional Level and then progresses to the State and National Level.

INTERNATIONAL SPELLING BEE NIGERIA

The International Spelling bee Nigeria Competition, sometimes called the Peat Philips Competition is also one of Nigeria’s Standout Spelling Bee Competition. The Competition offers Participants the chance to compete Internationally with other Nations within and outside the continent of Africa.

The competition in two stages (State and National) and participants who scale through the State Level gets to compete with each other for the National crown as well as for a chance to qualify for the Intercontinental Spelling bee competition that bring spellers from different continents together.

The Oba Ayangburen and the Bee Competition is a very unique spelling bee opened to schools within Lagos State. The Competition could be said to be the first indigenous-themed Spelling Bee competition in Nigeria as spellers that makes it to the State Finals are required to dress in an indigenous outfit based on their state of Origin.

The OOATB Competition is in two stages and is only opened to Primary School Pupils. First, registered participants contest at the Local Government Level where all 20 Local Governments in Lagos State are expected to at least produce one finalist to represent them at the State Final usually held at the Ikorodu Town hall.

The competition is highly competitive and at the same time rewarding. First Place winner is offered full scholarship at Kingsfield college in Ikorodu.

The MTN mPulse Spelling Bee is undoubtedly one of the biggest and highly revered Spelling bee Competitions in Nigeria. It is a competition opened to all registered MTN users within the age of 9-15 in the mPulse tariff .

The competition is held in three stages, starting from the Entry stage down to the Second round and then to the Grand Finale. The Competition combines both Virtual and Physical Participation. At the first and second round, Participants get to spell given number of words in few seconds on the MTN Mpulse Website.

The UNESCO Endorsed Spell and Thrill is one of Nigeria’s biggest Spelling Bee and their activities can be traced as far back as 2017. The competition is opened to all Nigerian Primary and Secondary Schools.

The Competition is held at both the Regional level and National Level. The regional level consists of schools from the South West, South east, South South, North East and North Central.

At the Secondary Category of the National Final, Participants compete with each other for the grand sum of one million Naira While Primary School Participants Compete for the grand sum of Five Hundred Thousand Naira.
