The first three rounds of the Scripps Spelling bee 2025 has successfully been conducted and Out of the 242 contestants that started the contest, only 99 are left in the Competition.

The first round was the spelling round, the second was the Vocabulary round and the third was the written test.

In the first round, only 42 participants were eliminated and shockingly one of the contestants missed out on a word as easy as Calabash.

We bring you a compilation of our top 7 easiest words called in the first round of the Scripps Spelling bee 2025 where 2 of the words were misspelled and ultimately led to the elimination of two contestants from the competition.

Now, before we bring you our compiled List, it is important to note that an easy word is not Judged by the Length of that word as some words can be short but very tricky especially when pronouncing. for Instance, the word “Gunwale” can be adjudged to be an easy word as one may easily think that it is pronounce as “Gun-weil” but then, the correct pronunciation is /ˈɑʌnΙ™l/.

  1. PHILISTINE: This is a word that is commonly found in Christian Religious Materials and even if you claim not to be a Christian, you sure would have come across the word at one point in your life.
  2. ESAU: A Notable Character who commonly appears in kids Bible Stories. According to the Bible, Esau was noted to have sold his birthright to his Brother, Jacob.
  3. EMOLUMENT: This may appear to be a difficult word but then it is not. It is a word that commonly appears in most Grade 4-6 Wordlists. It simply means profit from an office or employment.
  4. FRACAS (Missed by Speller 17): This is another Easy word called in the First round of the Competition but unfortunately, Speller 17, Caroline Van Garsse was unable to Ace it. The Word Fracas is commonly used when describing an argument or quarrel.
  5. ADIEU: This word commonly Appears in Cloth prints mourning the dead. In Most part of the world especially in Africa you commonly see people wearing the Shirt with the word “Adieu Mama” or “Adieu Papa” Written on it. The word simply Means Good Bye.
  6. CALABASH (Missed by Speller 82): This word needs no Introduction. From the Kindergarten Level, words like this are being introduced to young Learners and it is a word we see time to time on Textbooks and other Printed Materials. Although it as two different meanings but then, it would still pass as an easy word. Adele Gibbens from Kansas Spelt “Calibash“.
  7. SELAH: This is another Christian Religious word commonly found in the Bible. Well, it was no problem for Speller 189, Anjali Agarwal as she correctly spelt the word.
