Skibidi, Delulu, Tradwife becomes latest set of Slangs added to Cambridge Dictionary

The Popularity of Modern day Slangs among the present Generation of Young Adults have lead to the emergence of New words and phrases which are now being Included to the Official English Dictionary, a signal that the words can now be less seen as slangs and formally used in English Communications.

Recently, Gen-Z slangs such as Skibidi, Delulu and Tradwife were Surprisingly added to the Cambridge English Dictionary as confirmed by Colin McIntosh, the Dictionary’s Lexical programme manager.

In his words: “Internet culture is changing the English language and the effect is fascinating to observe and capture in the dictionary,”

“It’s not every day you get to see words like ‘skibidi’ and ‘delulu’ make their way into the Cambridge Dictionary. We only add words where we think they’ll have staying power.”

WHAT IS SKIBIDI, DELULU AND TRADWIFE?

Well, before we proceed to the official meaning presented by Cambridge, let’s first look at how these terms became popular.

SKIBIDI: The term “Skibidi” Emerged from a YouTube Series known as “Skibidi Toilet” that sees a human heads pop out from a toilet and engage in battles while repeatedly Echoing the word “Skibidi”. The animated Series became popular among the young generations who picked the term “Skibidi” and used it as a slang.

As a slang “Skibidi” is used to say “Awesome” or “Cool”

DELULU: This is a Slang Commonly used on Social Media to Express the Disconnection of an individual from realistic situations. In a simpler term, it is used to describe an Ignorant person. “Delulu” was coined from the English word, “Delusional”

TRADWIFE: This is a short term for “Traditional Wife” and as a Slang, it is used to describe a Married woman who prefers to do home chores like cooking, cleaning and general home maintenance, seeing it as her primary role or duty.
